A New Era in Global Accreditation: The Birth of GLOBAC

The world of accreditation is evolving with a groundbreaking development: the establishment of the Global Accreditation Cooperation (GLOBAC). This new organization represents the merger of the International Accreditation Forum (IAF) and the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC), two giants in the global accreditation landscape.

Why GLOBAC Matters

For decades, IAF and ILAC have facilitated the international acceptance of conformity assessment results. Their frameworks have ensured trust in products, services, and systems worldwide by accrediting conformity assessment bodies, including laboratories, certification bodies, and inspection bodies.

In 2019, members of both organizations decided to form a single international entity to streamline operations and enhance global cooperation. By January 2026, GLOBAC is expected to fully take over the roles of IAF and ILAC, bringing together their respective Multilateral Recognition Arrangements (MLA and MRA) under a unified framework.

Transitioning to GLOBAC

As the transition progresses, IAF and ILAC will continue their normal operations, ensuring no disruptions in existing accreditation agreements. The GLOBAC Mutual Recognition Arrangement (MRA) will maintain the integrity of existing results while introducing a unified mark for accredited services.

Regulators and stakeholders are encouraged to revise references to IAF and ILAC in their documents to align with GLOBAC's framework. The transition to GLOBAC is not just an administrative change; it is a leap towards a more integrated and efficient accreditation ecosystem.

What Lies Ahead

By 2029, only the GLOBAC MRA mark will remain in use, simplifying international trade and boosting confidence in globally accredited services. KingCert is committed to supporting this transition and keeping its partners informed of the latest developments.
